Cultural Voice Explores The Best In The Creative Industries In Madrid, Spain! Viva España!

                                                   The Zinc Shower event was held between April 11-12, 2013. It brought together some of Spain’s most promising entrepreneurs and innovators in the world of the Creative Industries. The backdrop for this occasion was set in the abandoned slaughter house known as the Matadero, giving it a rustic feel and space to immense creativity.   Emprezz describes herself as a passionate, benevolent entrepreneur and media personality. She focuses on making ideas tangible realities. How many of us can say we've started and successfully run a resturant (alongside husband Steven) ; a Jamaican themed clothing and accessories store; manufactured and designed new card games; produced multiple shows including her newest 'Talk up Yout' which can be seen on TVJ every tuesday @6pm, and much more?   Emprezz gave us a peek into her life before returning to Jamaica. 'CHERRY' Emprezz spent most of her high school years in Australia and during that time she was a member of a pop singing group called 'Cherry' and used her middle name 'Camielle'. The Group was signed to Sony Records and Warner Music. It was during this time that Emprezz aka Camielle 'found herself' asking many self revealing questions in the multicultural environment...

High School Classroom to Fashion! Meet Nilajah!

Moya 'Nilajah' Johnson said her faith led her to her current pursuit as a full time fashion jewellery designer. Her designs, under the label Nilajah, have been taking Ja by storm, already in many boutiques such as Xxtras, Carbys, Things Jamaica among others. I met up with her at last weekends Grosvenor Art Fair, where she displayed a selection of necklaces, earings, you name it. Moya taught history and social studies at St. Hugh's high school and was also a CXC marker for Social Studies. Moya, married with two lovely boys aged 2 and 3, was finding it increasingly difficult to ignore her creative calling, and though she originally planned to make a life long career out of teaching, as a Christian she felt led to follow the will of the Lord. She says that Nilajah is already profitable, and that she has support from her husband who is a graphic designer, and had her mother as an investor in the business as well as other family friends. When he started the campus was located on North Street. He owns a screen printing shop focusining mainly on textile printing in the Philadelphia area. Main customers : corporate entities, churches, clubs, fund raisers, small businesses Been in business for 18 years: Islander Joe Obstacles: As a Jamaican overseas the main obstacle was establishing credibility. Solution: If you really come with the goods then they eventually recognize the ability. He lives by the motto: you get a long way by exercising humility and patience. Advice to young entrepreneurs: The best progress comes slowly, when you have time to consistently grow. In business, overnight success is not the goal but a sustainable approach is optimal.
